Series 9000, a free sixth-order filter

The next plug-in in our free Nugget Basket series is here! Meet Series 9000, a low-pass filter and distortion effect.
This is another one for the sampler fans. Series 9000 has the same steep, sixth-order low-pass filter made famous by a rackmount sampler from the late 80s. For fun, we added some original features like drive, resonance, and an envelope follower. Watch your fingers, this thing cuts away frequencies like a samurai sword!
Here are the four controls:
- Cutoff, sets the filter cutoff. One unique thing about the hardware is that the minimum cutoff is only around 300 Hz, so when you pull the filter all the way down, you’ll still hear the backbone of your sound coming through.
- Drive, we embedded custom saturators in each filter stage. This can get really brutal, but if you keep the drive at 0.0 dB, you’ll get a fully clean and linear sound.
- Q, filter resonance.
- Env, an envelope follower for cutoff modulation. Adaptive release, nice to bring the filter to life a little bit!
I’m really excited to get this one out because part of the reason I created our paid filter plug-in, Scissor Hands, was because I wanted this steep, sixth-order sound. Tidbits like this can get lost in a fully featured plug-in, so it’s fun to be able to showcase this special sound and make it freely available for people.
